The longevity of Farber Surveying has its rewards and pitfalls. We have been through two recessions now. The first one is why I got into this business to start with. I needed a job. Much to my favor I have finally figured out I need to treat the business as a business and not just a job. While the economy was cruising along it was ok to treat it like a job, or so it seemed. I have learned a lot in the last ten years, a case of the school of hard knocks. We have survived the most recent recession and are on track to expand with a thriving business, suitable for the next generation of surveyors to carry forward. We have successfully supported many families over the years and are now positioned to support many more. These successes have been achieved by providing solutions to people’s problems related to their property. The problems are both big and small all dependent on your perspective. If it is your problem it is big and if it is someone else’s not so big. We take pride in eliminating those problems based on a lot of practice finding solutions. Take care. When we look at what a land surveyor provides in the way of services we all have generally the same end product. We set pins on property corners. We prepare maps illustrating how we set the corners and on and on. The pins we set have a different cap on them to idenitify who set the corner but it is still a pin, typically a 5/8″ rebar. So what sets us apart from each other? It is our thinking. We have always put our client first. We drill down by asking questions to find out what our clints true needs are and not what we think they need or what the book says they need. The book is not alway correct. By putting our client first and thinking out side of the box we have a loyal customer base which means a referal base as well. To work for Farber Surveying you need to have a servents heart and an entrepunerial mindset. This has ment the most of our business is generated from mom and pops and are not the typically sought after “big” jobs. I suppose this is not the most financially rewarding, i.e. big dollars, but it is very rewarding and satisfying, and that is what life is really about.
I spent 55 years living day to day, month to month and year to year. I have a successful business and I took advantage of all that came my way. I did not have any strategic plan or other long term goals or objectives. The 2008 came and my business collapsed and all that I had worked for virtually disappeared in the span of a year with little on in the radar screen based on my previous day to day month to month existence. The time for change was readily apparent. Through this process I was introduced to personal growth and through ACN the Success magazine and more importantly the CD’s that came in it. In my previous life I did not believe nor was I open to any of this type of stuff, I was busy. When I became un-busy I also became open. Darren Hardy, John Maxwell, Jim Rohn and so many others have opened up a whole new world. I am eternally grateful for the effect this has had on my life. I am now rebounding, working to build my new life and am looking forward to all that it will bring to me and my family and friends. I now have a future and a vision of a long and productive life. I would not have any of this if it were not for Success and my rolling university.
